The ability to add shortcuts from your OneDrive to a SharePoint folder is very helpful. What’s less helpful is when the person who created the destination folder used a vague name, or no naming convention. The ability to rename this shortcut you’ve created is a welcome update. Combine this with the new ability to move your shortcuts and have your shortcuts renamed and all in one place.

TL;DR:
Microsoft are adding the ability to rename shortcuts you’ve added using the ‘Add Shortcut to My files’ feature within OneDrive web. Due early to late June 2022.

Details:
You will soon be able to rename shortcuts within your OneDrive. When you rename the shortcut, the name change will be only reflected for the shortcut and not the shortcut’s source…as you’d expect. The shortcut’s new name will be updated everywhere you see your shortcut.

This change applies to folder shortcuts which have been added using the ‘Add Shortcut to My files’ feature, not Windows shortcuts.
