The Teams Channel Agent updates include support for file-based grounding. Due mid-November 2025 (targeted release).
Details
The Channel Agent is a Copilot-powered assistant for Microsoft Teams channels (read more here: Microsoft Teams to get a channel ‘AI assistant’ agent). Microsoft are adding the following enhancements:
- Files as Grounding: The Channel Agent will be able to use files from the channel’s SharePoint folder to respond to user queries:

- Status Report Skill Updates: At-mention the agent with queries like “create a status report” to post a report directly in the channel. Manage recurring reports in ‘Status Report settings’:

- Workback Plan: You’ll be able to share your objective and deadline with the Channel Agent and generate a sequenced task list. Review and adjust before adding tasks to Planner:

Other enhancements include:
- GitHub MCP Skill: Supports GitHub MCP integration
- Agent Settings: Admins can disable agent auto-creation
- Localisation: Supports 25+ languages
- Smarter Task Updates: Bulk task updates, task title editing, and context-aware references
