Short Version
Microsoft is adding Viva Engage communities to the Chat navigation in Teams. Due between March and April 2026.

Details
This update will be on by default for M365 users with access to Teams and Viva Engage, unless your organisation disables it.

Key points from Microsoft:

  1. In the unified view of chat and Channels, Communities will appear in the Chat app
  2. In the (traditional) separate view for Chat and Channels, Communities will appear in both apps
  3. Viva Engage community memberships will sync
  4. Favourited communities in Engage will appear in Teams favourites
  5. Notifications for announcements and mentions will surface in the Teams Activity feed

Microsoft: “If you do not want to see communities at all in your navigation, you can hide all the communities. There is no switch to turn off communities for yourself”. Your organisation may choose to remove communities from the navigation for everyone.

Availability
