Meeting organisers will soon be able to automatically transcribe meetings without a recording. Due early to mid-May 2026.
Details
Previously, you had two options for automatic transcription: Off and Record and transcribe automatically (1). This new setting starts transcription automatically when the meeting begins, without creating a recording (2), and supports Microsoft Copilot and Intelligent Recap:
In Meeting options > Recording & transcription, you will see these options for when the meeting starts:
- Off: No automatic recording or transcription (default)
- Record and transcribe: Both recording and transcription start automatically (same as previous automatic recording behaviour)
- Transcribe only: Only the transcription starts automatically and is available after the meeting; no recording is created
