TL;DR
Microsoft Teams is introducing custom avatars for group chats, allowing you to upload your own images or select from built-in images or emojis. Now due mid-March to early August 2024.

Details
You will soon be able to use custom avatars (the little round image to the left of a chat) in group chats. Group chat members will be able to upload their own image or select a built-in image or emoji. This will help to visually identify chats with similar titles or participants.
