TL;DR
Microsoft Teams will soon offer results from your chats as you do a general search. Due mid to late July 2024.
Details
If you search from the command/search box at the top of Teams you see results as you type. You have the option to filter these results by Files, Group Chats and Teams and Channels. For this update, let us call this stage 1.
Pressing Enter takes you to the search screen where the filters include Messages. Let us call this stage 2:
With this update, that Messages filter you see at stage 2, will appear at stage 1, your initial search where the suggestions appear as you type:
Selecting the Messages filter will allow you to focus on results from your messages as you type your search. If you prefer, you can still press Enter to go to the full search page.
