TL;DR
Microsoft is making it easier and quicker to share a file from a Chat conversation, a Chat Shared tab, or a channel post to 1:1 chats, group chats, or channels…with fewer clicks. Due early to late April 2025.

Details
The file permissions are maintained when you share a file, but you can change them. You will also have the option to include a message with the shared file and @mention colleagues.

Steps:

  1. Locate the file in a Chat conversation, a Chat Shared tab, or a channel post, and select Share.
  2. Mandatory: Type the name(s) of the intended recipient or the channel to which you want to share the file.
  3. Optional: Add text to the message or @mention colleagues.
  4. Optional: Modify permissions.
