Short Version
You can now say “Hey Copilot” to start voice in Copilot on Windows devices. Due late December 2025 to late January 2026. Now due early to late February 2026.
Details
You can start a voice chat with Copilot by saying “Hey Copilot”. To end the conversation for now, press the “Dismiss/X” button in the voice chat controls.
The “Hey Copilot” feature will be off by default. You will need to manually enable the feature by going to Settings > Quick view in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app and turning on the Listen for “Hey Copilot” toggle (you may need to give it access to your microphone in a following step). When enabled, this capability will operate locally on your device and will only activate when it “hears” the trigger words “Hey Copilot,” without recording or storing any conversations.
Currently, this is only for Copilot-licensed users and will not work when audio from another app is on or when your device is locked.
