Short Version
M365 Copilot, Copilot Chat and Create will now use GPT‑Image‑1.5 for images. Due mid-December 2025 to late January 2026.

Details
Microsoft is updating M365 Copilot image generation by introducing GPT‑Image‑1.5 (OpenAI’s latest image generation mode) into M365 Copilot, Copilot Chat and the Create experience in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app.

Microsoft hope you will see:

  • Improved instruction following for text-to-image requests.
  • More accurate rendering of requested styles, composition, and on-image text.
  • More reliable region-specific image editing with fewer unintended changes.
  • Higher-quality visuals with more realistic lighting, textures, and composition.
  • Faster generation—up to 4× improvement for many prompts.
  • More consistent preservation of facial likeness, lighting, and colour tone during iterative edits.

Users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license have priority access; those without have standard access. Read more about standard versus priority access to features in Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat on Microsoft Support.

I tested the following prompt in the Create agent: “Create a car fuel gauge on a British Racing Green background with the needle at half full. the E, F and needle should be whitish/cream. The top half of the British flag should be across the top of the image, in the same colours”. The result was exactly what I visualised on my first attempt:
