TL;DR
SharePoint is introducing updates to the drag-and-drop experience. Due mid to late February 2025.

Details
If you are a SharePoint page editor and like to drag-and-drop, you can look forward to these updates:

  • You may see more prominent ‘drop hints’ when moving web parts on the canvas. Drop hints will appear as a square or rectangle (1) when space allows or as lines when there is insufficient space.
  • The cursor will change to an open and closed hand when using drag and drop to move web parts.
  • Drop a web part on the plus button between sections to add a new one-column section to the page with the dropped web part.
  • Replace images that exist on the canvas by dropping an image from the Toolbox on top of the pre-existing image.
  • The default stock images on the Toolbox (2) will update based on the SharePoint page title.

Availability
