Short Version
SharePoint has a new process for adding videos to pages, ensuring your audience has permission to view them. Due mid-July to early August 2025.
Details
If you add a video to a SharePoint page or post, and that video is stored in a location with different permissions than the page, page viewers may not be able to watch the video. This update aims to prevent that from happening, as the page editor adds the video to the page using the File and media web part or the Stream web part.
As you add video to a page, you will see one or both of the following dialogues:
- Create a shareable link for this video?
- Create link: Generates a sharing link allowing anyone in the organisation to view the video.
- Don’t create: No sharing link is created; access remains restricted to users with existing permissions.

- Copy video to this page?
- Copy: Copies the video to the site asset folder and creates a sharing link.
- Don’t copy: Leaves the video in its original location; only users with existing permissions can view it.
