Live captions in Microsoft Teams are getting a new right-side panel layout, alongside the existing top, bottom, and pop-out options, plus a single consolidated settings menu for spoken language, translation, display style, and more. Due mid-September 2026.
Details
You’ll be able to display live captions in a new right-side panel, giving you a way to keep captions visible without them overlapping meeting video or shared content. The existing top, bottom, and pop-out caption layouts remain available too, so this is an additional option rather than a replacement.
Caption settings move into a single, consolidated settings menu within the captions pane, covering Spoken language, Translation language, Caption display styles, Profanity filtering, and Automatically turn on live captions:
The synchronised translation language setting means you shouldn’t need to configure Interpreter and translated captions separately anymore.
The option to automatically turn on live captions is a personal, user-level preference. Once you switch it on, live captions will start automatically for you in future meetings, though this is still subject to your organisation’s meeting policies and feature availability.
