Flexible Sections in SharePoint Pages are getting new layout guides, a persistent gridlines option, and the ability to convert an existing standard section into a Flexible Section without losing your current layout. Due mid to late August 2026.

Flexible Sections let you build a page without a strict column structure, resizing and moving web parts freely within a section. This update adds guidance and controls to make that easier and more predictable, without taking away the flexibility.
You’ll see new layout guides that mirror the column structure of standard sections, helping you create more consistent layouts while still being able to resize, move, and overlap content as before. Web parts you add to a Flexible Section will align to the layout guide width by default, though you can still adjust their size and placement manually. This improved guidance also helps Flexible Sections adapt more consistently across email, mobile, and browser views, and when the canvas size changes.
A new grid layout guides toggle appears in the page command bar. You can also turn on a page-level setting to keep gridlines and layout guides visible while editing, so you can line things up without needing to start a drag or resize action first.
If you already have a standard section you’d like to make flexible, you can convert it directly from the section property pane. Your existing column structure and web part placement are preserved during the conversion, so you won’t need to rebuild the content from scratch.
