Short Version
You will soon be able to add text or image watermarks to PDFs in SharePoint and OneDrive. Due mid-June to early July 2025.

Details
To add a text watermark:

  1. Open a PDF stored in OneDrive or SharePoint and then select Edit at the top right of the screen
  2. Select Watermark from the top menu.
  3. Enter your text.
  4. Choose the formatting and colour.
  5. Adjust the size, transparency, and rotation.
  6. Position: choose from: top left, top centre, top right, middle left, middle centre, middle right, bottom left, bottom centre, and bottom right.
  7. Preview your changes on the right, then select Apply:


To add an image watermark:

  1. Open a PDF stored in OneDrive or SharePoint and then select Edit at the top right of the screen.
  2. Select Watermark from the top menu.
  3. Select the Picture tab to add and insert a picture.
  4. Adjust the scale, transparency, and rotation.
  5. Position: choose from: top left, top centre, top right, middle left, middle centre, middle right, bottom left, bottom centre, and bottom right.
  6. Preview your changes on the right, then select Apply:



Notes:

Select the initial Watermark button to edit or remove your watermark.

Watermarks will be visible in other PDF tools but cannot be edited or removed.

Applying a watermark will change your PDF document; the watermark is superimposed on the PDF content.

Microsoft states: “Users can easily remove any watermark applied in OneDrive or SharePoint”. I’m not currently clear about the scope of who they are referring to by ‘users’.
