TL;DR
Can’t attend a meeting but want to stay engaged and easily access meeting information? The new Follow meeting response in Outlook and Teams is for you. Now due mid-June to mid-September 2024.
Details
A new meeting response option called Follow is being introduced in Outlook for Windows and Outlook on the Web. This option allows people who cannot attend a meeting to stay informed about it. Perfect if you have conflicting meetings or simply need the time back.
Follow will be in addition to the Accept, Tentative, and Decline responses, allowing you to stay engaged and access post-meeting information in Teams.
Responding to a meeting with Follow will:
- Inform the meeting organiser that you can’t attend but want to stay engaged:
- Mark the meeting on your calendar as free so you can better prioritise your time. You will still have access to the meeting and chat
- Remind meeting organisers to record and take collaborative notes during the meeting:
- You will receive a notification that the recap is available after the meeting (there will be a slight delay on this last feature rolling out)
If the meeting organiser views a ‘followed’ meeting in classic Outlook, your attendance will appear as ‘tentative’, but a note will tell that organiser that you are following:
