The Top of Doc summarisation experience in Word is moving to other Copilot surfaces. The capability itself isn’t being removed, only where you access it is changing. Now due from early September 2026.
Details
Currently, document summarisation in Word appears at the top of your document. From late August 2026, this moves to other Copilot in Word surfaces instead. In supported scenarios, you may see a proactive “Summarise this document” suggestion within the Copilot experience; selecting it generates a summary in Copilot. You can also open Copilot in Word directly and ask for a summary using a natural language prompt, such as “Summarise this document.”
The underlying summarisation capability isn’t going away, it remains available through Copilot in Word. Only the way you access it is changing.
