TL;DR
Accessibility improvements to SharePoint tables within the text webpart will allow you to specify row and column layouts, as well as provide alternative text labels for screen readers. Due early to late January 2024.

Details
Right click into any cell to access the table accessibility menu to input an accessibility title and specify which rows or columns function as headers. This helps screen reader users understand how the data is categorised.

When you apply a style, the rows and columns that function as headers in that style are automatically marked as such. You can give your entire table an accessibility label, which can be read aloud by the screen reader.

Availability
Due early to late January 2024.
