Short Version
Microsoft will update the filter pane in SharePoint Document Libraries and Lists and hopes to deliver a faster, more flexible filtering experience without changing the core functionality. Due mid to late February 2026.
Details
The core functionality will remain the same. These improvements “will address performance issues” and provide a more intuitive interface.

Main changes:
- Expand and collapse sections: Expand or collapse individual sections or collapse all sections at once to scan all available filters (1)
- See all filterable fields: All filterable fields from the library or list content will display without limitations. Because fields are automatically shown, the ability to pin or remove filter fields has been removed (2)
- Better performance: “Filtering interactions are faster and more responsive across all libraries”.
Availability
Due mid to late February 2026.
