TL;DR
Microsoft is revamping the default gallery in Teams meetings and calls. Now due mid-June to late July 2024.

Details

  • Participant tiles will have a 16:9 aspect ratio. Apparently, a better experience when turning their videos on/off and provides more visibility for body language and hand gestures
  • Audio and video attendees will share the same space by default
  • Meeting rooms will be displayed larger than individual participants
  • Your own tile will be included next to the rest of the participants
  • Customisation of the gallery options include:
    • Gallery size: Choose the maximum number of tiles that will be represented per page
    • Hide your own tile
    • Prioritising videos participants over audio only
    • Meeting room tile size: resize the meeting room tile to the same size as the rest of the participants
