Are you responsible for keeping your organisation up to date with Microsoft 365 changes? This change will help you to better focus your effort.

Short version:
The Microsoft Message Centre is where changes to Microsoft 365 apps and services such as Teams, SharePoint and Outlook are announced and explained. Soon, these posts will include the monthly active users (MAU) specific to the Microsoft 365 change being discussed. Due late-January to mid-February 2022.

Details:
This change will help your organisation to decide which changes they should prioritise. For example, if a service has zero users, a minor change can probably be ignored. But, if a large percentage of your organisation use an app or service which is about to get a major change, they may make a lot more effort to ensure that you and your colleagues know about it. This should help them to do a better job of keeping you up to date with Microsoft 365 changes that matter to you.

For the admins:
The monthly active users shown initially will be for ALL platforms. This means that if the change is for MS Teams, it will show the monthly active users for web, desktop, mobile and Mac. Microsoft are working on breaking these numbers down in the future.

On the Message Centre detail panel, you will see:

  • ‘Service & monthly active users’ field (previously only ‘Service’)
  • Monthly active users (based on the past 28 days) in brackets after the service name(s)

Supported apps and services (Microsoft are working to expand this list):

  • Teams
  • Exchange Online
  • Microsoft 365 apps
  • OneDrive for Business
  • SharePoint Online
  • Skype for Business
  • Yammer

Availability:
Due late-January to mid-February 2022.
