You will have noticed that some M365 apps have a menu in the top-left corner. Outlook is joining that club.

TL;DR:
The new experience for accessing Mail, Calendar, People, and other Outlook apps that is currently being previewed behind the Coming Soon option is becoming the default experience. Available now for some, but others will have to wait until mid-January 2023.

Details:
Microsoft are changing how you access Email, Calendar, Tasks, and other main functions in Outlook. This change is already available behind the Coming Soon toggle in the top right of Outlook for Windows:

This update is going to become the default experience. You can customise this area with icons for apps, such as To Do, Yammer Communities, and Bookings, and open them directly from Outlook’s main canvas.

Here’s a screenshot from my PC. If I click on PowerPoint, the slide-deck I have open comes into focus, if I don’t have a slide deck open then the PowerPoint backstage view opens where I see New, Recommended for you, Recent, Pinned etc. I really like this new view:


Availability:
Due mid-July mid-August to late September 2022.
Now due mid-August to late October 2022 for everyone.
Now due mid-August 2022 to mid-January 2023 (you may already have it).
