Short Version
Microsoft Teams is adding two new system chat sections: Muted chats and Meeting chats to help you organise your chat and channels list by grouping those conversations into dedicated sections you can turn on or off. Due early May to late May 2026.
Details
Teams is introducing two new system chat sections: Muted chats and Meeting chats. They let you group muted conversations and meeting chats into their own sections, which you can toggle on or off.
The Meeting chats (1) section is off by default. When you turn it on, meeting chats that aren’t in Favourites or your own sections move here, the section appears below the main chats list, and unread chats stay bold and add to badge counts. Enable it in Teams Settings and more > Settings > Chats and channels > Show meeting chats in their own section:

The Muted chats (2) section is on by default. Muted chats that aren’t in Favourites or in your own user-created sections automatically move here, the section appears at the bottom of the chat list, and unread chats stay bold.

Chats in Favourites or user-created sections aren’t moved, and you can drag and drop the sections to reorder them.
