Short Version
Microsoft Teams is getting an in-meeting toggle that lets licensed organisers and presenters turn Meeting AI (Copilot, Facilitator and meeting recap) on or off during a live meeting. You’ll be able to capture insights when a discussion is valuable and switch AI off when talk turns to sensitive topics, with an indicator showing everyone whether Meeting AI is active. Due mid to late June 2026.
Details
A new Meeting AI toggle will appear in the Teams meeting toolbar, shown only when Meeting AI is allowed by policy. Licensed organisers and presenters can turn it on or off at any point during a meeting, and an AI status indicator tells participants whether Meeting AI is currently active (1).

When Meeting AI is turned off, Copilot, Facilitator responses and Notes are no longer generated; anything already created remains available and governed by your retention policies. One thing worth knowing: AI and transcription are coupled. Turning on Meeting AI automatically starts transcription and generates a recap, and starting transcription automatically enables Meeting AI and recap. To prevent Meeting AI usage entirely, both transcription and Meeting AI must stay off.
