🔜 Unified conversations: Streamlined chat history view

Microsoft is introducing a unified chat history experience across Microsoft 365, consolidating all your conversations into a single, streamlined list. This change improves discoverability and continuity by removing the need to switch between web and work contexts. This update replaces the previous toggle-based chat view with a unified conversation list. You will see: A full chat history page that preserves the grounding state from the last visit, a single list of all conversations regardless of context, and the five most recent conversations in the left navigation pane.

Copilot is getting a new filtering capability that allows you to refine your view of past conversations. Due late August to early September 2025. Read more.
🔜Build and analyse surveys with Surveys Agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot

Surveys is a new Copilot agent in Microsoft 365 that will help you easily build, run, and analyse surveys through chat. Surveys are powered by MS Forms and adhere to existing admin policies for the Forms service. You will be able to install it from the Microsoft 365 Copilot Agent Store under “Built by Microsoft.” Due early to mid-September 2025. Read more.
🔜 The Copilot Researcher agent gets source controls

Microsoft 365 Copilot license holders will be able to access Source Controls for the Researcher agent. Due late August to mid-September 2025. Read more.
🔜 Microsoft Copilot Studio – Inactive agent sessions will now end after 15 minutes of inactivity
Microsoft: “The automatic time-out threshold for inactive agent sessions is being reduced from 36 minutes, down to 15 minutes. This change will enhance service performance and improve analytics by making data from inactive sessions available sooner”.

🔜 Communication memory in Copilot – enhanced personalisation across Copilot
Communication Memory will improve how you interact across Microsoft 365 apps. This AI-powered feature will analyse and summarise your digital communications—such as emails, chats, and meeting transcripts—to create a live memory of key highlights. As a result, Copilot will deliver responses that are more personalised and context-aware, helping you work more efficiently across platforms like Outlook, Teams, and others. Unlike existing features that operate within individual apps, you experience a unified view of your communications across channels. Summaries will be generated by large language models (LLMs), and while they may occasionally contain inaccuracies, each memory will include source links for your review and verification. On by default for Copilot-licensed users.

🔜 Copilot.cloud.microsoft will be deprecated in favour of m365.cloud.microsoft/chat for chat access
Microsoft: “Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat web access is being simplified by consolidating entry points from copilot.cloud.microsoft to m365.cloud.microsoft/chat, reducing user confusion. The change starts mid-September with automatic redirection, requires no admin action, and does not affect data processing or AI capabilities”.

🔜 Content Sources in Copilot Chat
Microsoft: “We’re introducing a new capability that allows users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license to scope and control Copilot Chat responses by selecting specific content sources. This enhancement is designed to improve the relevance and accuracy of Copilot responses by limiting them to user-selected sources, aligning with customer feedback for more transparent and customizable AI interactions”.

Real-time voice is coming to M365 Copilot Chat and M365 Copilot, offering a great alternative to typing-based interactions. Now due from early September 2025. Read more.
🕔 The Microsoft Copilot chat prompt box is getting a new ‘Tools’ feature
Microsoft is adding a new ‘Tools’ button to Copilot Chat to access task-specific AI capabilities. Due mid to late August 2025. Read more.
🕔 Microsoft 365 Copilot: Search for and select Teams Chats in Context IQ to scope prompts
Microsoft: “With this new feature, users will be able to search for and select Teams Chats in Context IQ (CIQ) to scope their prompts in BizChat.” and “Users will be able to ground their prompts in BizChat to the Teams Chats that they have access to. More details will be published for users here when this feature releases: Using Context IQ to refer to specific files, people, and more in Microsoft 365 Copilot“.

🕔 M365 Copilot gets better file grounding refinement
The Files tab in the M365 Copilot prompt box is gaining ‘Type’ and ‘People’ filters to help you ground your prompt in content that matters to you. Now due late August to mid-September 2025. Read more.
🕔 Microsoft 365 Copilot to generate audio overviews for Word, Teams, OneDrive & more
Copilot in OneDrive, Teams, Word, Outlook and Copilot Notebooks will turn files and meetings into an audio overview, creating a listening experience that’s easy to follow. Due May to September 2025 (Teams and Word dates pushed back). Read more.
🕔 Researcher is being added to Copilot Notebooks
Microsoft: “We’re expanding the capabilities of the Researcher Agent by integrating it into Copilot Notebooks. This enhancement allows users to conduct complex, multi-step research across enterprise data sources—without leaving the Notebook experience—using OpenAI’s deep researcher model with chain-of-thought reasoning”.

🕔 Access Copilot agents from the Microsoft Edge sidebar

Microsoft: “Users will soon be able to access agents in Microsoft 365 Copilot from the Edge sidebar (on the right side of the screen) while using Copilot”, and “Users must first add agents to Microsoft 365 Copilot for them to be available in the Edge sidebar when using Copilot. (Learn more about adding agents: Introducing agents – Microsoft Support). Users will not be able to create, search for, or add new agents when using Copilot from the Edge sidebar at this time”.

🕔 Microsoft 365 Copilot app for iOS and Android: Agent Store will be available
Microsoft: “We’re expanding the Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile experience by introducing the agent store on mobile. After this rollout, users will be able to directly acquire agents from the Agent Store in the Copilot mobile apps for iOS and Android—without needing to be dependent on the web or desktop versions for this acquisition…”.

🔭 Initiate Copilot Chat by sharing files to the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on iPhone
Microsoft: “When users on iPhone choose the action to share a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file from a third party app (including Files) and choose Microsoft 365 Copilot as the target app, they will automatically be redirected to a Copilot Chat session in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app with the file summary populated. Users will then have the option to open a preview of the file, or continue their conversation with Copilot Chat”.

🔭 Launch the full Microsoft 365 Copilot app when using Copilot Chat in the Microsoft 365 apps
Microsoft: “When using the Copilot Chat side pane in Microsoft 365 apps, users will be able to launch the full Microsoft 365 Copilot app from a dedicated button. Additionally, accessing some features in the side pane will launch the full app”.

🔭 Copilot Chat – Session Persistence Enhancement
Microsoft: “This feature ensures that conversations are preserved even when users navigate away from a session. As soon as a prompt is submitted, an entry is immediately created in the navigation pane’s session history. This allows users to leave the session and return later just as if they had never left. The update enhances continuity and reliability, making it easier to navigate without losing progress”.

🔭 Copilot Chat – Support for emails in ContextIQ
Microsoft: “Users can include an email in their prompt as a reference by typing ‘/’ and selecting one from the ContextIQ menu. Copilot Chat will reference the included email as part of its response. This feature applies to users without a Microsoft 365 Copilot license (Copilot Chat users) and to users with a license (Microsoft 365 Copilot users) when they are toggled to web scope in chat”.

Microsoft: “When opening a Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on iPhone, users will get a preview experience where they can use Copilot Chat to command and ask questions about the files directly in the preview. This enables immediate access to Copilot Chat in a user’s file”.

🔭 Surveys Agent helps you build, run, and analyze surveys
Microsoft: “Surveys Agent is your expert companion in Microsoft 365 Copilot for building smarter surveys—start to finish. From crafting the survey, launching and collecting data, or analyzing results, Surveys Agent is there to guide you every step of the way. It’s like having a professional survey designer and data analyst at your fingertips—so you can focus on making confident, insight-driven decisions”.

🔭 Copilot Chat Tools Control
Microsoft: “Tools acts as a lightweight entry point into high-value, task-specific Copilot features and capabilities directly from the prompt box. By selecting Tools, users get a menu where they can easily discover and trigger the right Copilot feature or capability for their current task, while also providing consistent interactions across tools”.

🔭 Realtime voice is now available in M365 Copilot Chat and M365 Copilot
Microsoft: “Voice in M365 Copilot brings a natural, hands-free conversational experience to your desktop and mobile devices – enabling you to talk to Copilot like a colleague, unlocking a faster, more intuitive way to work. Speak directly to M365 Copilot to search for information, catch up between meetings, brainstorm out loud, and do it all in multiple languages”.

🕔 Updated order of Shortcut and Sync commands

Microsoft: “Users will see the “Add Shortcut to OneDrive” command appear before the “Sync” command in the command bar. This change is designed to encourage use of the shortcut feature while maintaining access to Sync. The command will also adopt a consistent name and icon across Microsoft 365 apps”.

🕔 Protect PDFs with Passwords on OneDrive for web and SharePoint

Microsoft: “SharePoint and OneDrive users can now secure their PDF files by adding protection that restricts unauthorized access through OneDrive Web. This feature allows you to set an open password, which is required to access the PDF, or an owner password, which sets permissions for actions such as printing or editing the document. This ensures your files remain secure and only accessible to authorized individuals”.

Outlook
🔜 Create and save email templates in the new Outlook for Windows
Microsoft will introduce support for email templates in the new Outlook for Windows and Outlook for the Web, allowing you to create, save, and reuse templates for quicker, more consistent communication. You will be able to import existing templates saved as .oft files, making the transition from classic Outlook smoother. You will create, edit, and use templates directly from the compose window, manage them via the Settings page, and access saved templates across devices and between Outlook platforms. Templates will be stored in your account, ensuring they follow you across devices for a consistent experience.

🔜 External tag in profile cards
Microsoft will soon introduce a visual indicator on the Outlook profile card to help you identify external participants in email conversations. This update will improve clarity and reduce the risk of sharing sensitive information with unintended recipients. Once available, you will see a visual cue on a user’s profile card when communicating with individuals outside your organisation.

🔜 Outlook for iOS and Android: Send button relocated to reduce accidental sends

To help you avoid accidental message sends, Microsoft will move the Send button in Outlook mobile from the bottom toolbar to the top of the compose view. This change will improve usability and reduce unintended taps, and the feature will be enabled by default on Android and iOS.

🔜 Microsoft Outlook for Android: Updated conversation actions

After the rollout, Microsoft Outlook for Android will relocate conversation actions from the top right corner of the reading pane to a toolbar at the bottom of the screen, where you will be able to customise the order and placement of actions such as Mark Unread, Pin, Delete, and Archive, choosing which remain visible in the toolbar and which stay in the overflow menu, with the toolbar displaying as many actions as space allows.

🔜 Better Outlook searches with Copilot and Immersive Search

Microsoft is introducing Immersive Search to Outlook, which includes an entry point to the Copilot side pane, presenting an AI-generated summary based on your query. Due early to late September 2025. Read more.
🔜 Outlook & Teams get a smarter scheduling experience with Copilot

Microsoft are updating the Event creation experience with a refreshed user interface and new Copilot capabilities. The updated Event form has a modernised layout with relocated controls and entry points for common actions. Now due mid-November to mid-December 2025. Read more.
🔜 Create and save email templates in the new Outlook for Windows
New Outlook for Windows and Outlook on the Web will support email templates, allowing you to create, save, edit, and reuse templates directly from the compose window. You will manage templates via the Settings page and access them across devices, as they will be stored in your account and roam with you. You will also be able to import existing templates saved as .oft files.

🕔 New Outlook for Windows: Add attachments while offline
Microsoft: “Users with offline mode enabled in the new Outlook for Windows will be able to attach files to draft emails while offline. These emails, including attachments, will be sent automatically once the device reconnects to the internet”.

🕔 Outlook Mobile: New unverified sender banner in reading pane
Microsoft will introduce a new visual indicator in the reading pane of Outlook Mobile (iOS and Android) to help you identify messages from unverified senders, aligning with existing functionality in Outlook for desktop and web to ensure a consistent experience across platforms. When you receive an email from a sender Microsoft cannot verify as safe, a banner will appear in the reading pane explaining why the sender is flagged and warning you to be cautious of potential impersonation. This feature will complement existing safety messages such as “External sender”, “Not on safe senders list”, and “You don’t often get email from this sender”.

🕔 Copilot chat to summarise emails for unlicensed users
Microsoft are introducing a new way to summarise email threads in Outlook using Copilot chat, for people with and without a Copilot licence. Now due mid-September to mid-November 2025. Read more.
🕔 Open attachments while offline in the new Outlook

You will soon be able to open and save attachments from your emails without an internet connection in the new Outlook for Windows. This functionality will be limited to file attachments; OneDrive and SharePoint links in the body of emails will still require an internet connection. To use this functionality, you must ensure that Offline mode and offline attachments are enabled.

🕔 Replace quick compose pop-up with inline appointment creation in new Outlook for Windows and web
Microsoft: “In new Outlook for Windows and web, when single-clicking on an empty time slot on the calendar surface, the quick compose pop-up will no longer appear. Instead, you will be able to create an appointment by typing directly in the time slot on the calendar grid, just as you can in classic Outlook for Windows. There will be no change to double-click behavior; the full compose form will still open as it does today”. Refs: MC846387 and 365 Roadmap ID 406948. Now due early May to late August 2025.
🔭 Copilot Chat – Search based user RSVP status
Microsoft: “Users will be able to search for meetings based on Self RSVP and Others RSVP status in Copilot Chat. Example prompts for a user looking for their own RSVP status include: “Meetings I have accepted/declined/marked tentative for today” “Did I accept Project OKR review meeting” “List all events I have not RSVPed”. Example prompts for a user looking for other individuals’ RSVP status include: “List RSVP status of attendees for the review meeting” “Who all have accepted the next meeting?” “Will Sarah attend Project review meet?””.

🔭 Automatic Draft Minimise
Microsoft: “When users close a draft in progress, it automatically minimizes instead of closing completely. The minimized draft can now be quickly accessed via a button that appears in the message list.RetryClaude can make mistakes. Please double-check responses”.

🔭 Chat for Outlook iOS and Android
Microsoft: “On phone devices, users currently access Copilot Chat in Outlook Mobile via a tab at the bottom of their screen (or in Apps). Outlook is introducing a new Copilot Chat overlay experience, allowing users to chat with Copilot while continuing to interact with their email, calendar, and contacts. This overlay will be context-aware—understanding what the user is viewing—so users can ask Copilot about the content on their screen. Users with M365 Copilot licenses will also benefit from Copilot’s ability to draw on Microsoft 365 Graph to provide richer, more personalized responses.”.

Microsoft: “Users can create Custom Search Folders in Outlook to automatically surface emails that match specific criteria such as sender, subject keywords, categories, date ranges, among others. Search folders update in real time and give you a focused view of the messages that matter most, without moving them from their original location”.

🔭 New Scheduling and Event Creation Experience
Microsoft: “The Outlook and Teams calendars will receive an update to the scheduling and event creation experience. Additionally, new capabilities will be available in this new experience to help streamline and enhance scheduling using Copilot”.

🚫 For the admins: Limiting onmicrosoft domain usage for sending emails
“Microsoft will throttle outbound emails sent from default onmicrosoft.com domains starting mid-October 2025, limiting to 100 messages per organization per 24 hours. 🚫 Retirement of web-based “Share to Teams” experience from Outlook
Microsoft: “We are retiring the standalone Share to Teams experience in Outlook for users who do not have the Teams desktop app installed. This retirement supports our goal of streamlining the sharing experience and reducing maintenance overhead, while ensuring a consistent and modern user experience across Outlook clients”.

🚫 Feature Retirement: Tonal Rewrite in Outlook Web Access (OWA)
Microsoft: “The Tonal Rewrite feature in Outlook Web Access will retire on September 15, 2025. Users will transition to using Copilot in Outlook for advanced, context-aware rewriting and tone adjustments, requiring no admin action. This change enhances writing flexibility and efficiency with AI-powered tools”.

🚫 Retirement of inline SVG images in Microsoft Outlook
Microsoft: “Microsoft Outlook will retire support for inline SVG images in Outlook for Web and new Outlook for Windows starting September 2025, showing blank spaces instead. This affects under 0.1% of images, enhances security, and requires no user action…”.

🚫 Sentence-Level Rewrite Suggestions Deprecation in Microsoft Word
Microsoft: “The Rewrite Suggestions feature in Microsoft Word will be deprecated after October 1, 2025, and replaced by the more advanced Copilot experience, offering context-aware rewriting, prompt-based editing, and iterative refinement. Users are encouraged to transition to Copilot’s Auto-Rewrite for enhanced writing assistance”.

🔜 Microsoft Copilot in PowerPoint: Reference Loop components when creating presentations
Do you know how to reference a file when using Copilot to create a presentation? This is just that, but you can now reference Loop components:

Microsoft will introduce the ability for you to reference Microsoft Loop components—such as Loops and Pages—when creating presentations using Microsoft 365 Copilot in PowerPoint, allowing you to seamlessly incorporate collaborative content from Loop into your slides to enhance productivity and support content reuse. Once this feature becomes available, you will be able to reference Loop components while creating presentations in PowerPoint across Windows desktop, Mac desktop, and the web, provided you hold a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence.

Microsoft: “Users can now listen to podcast-style audio overviews of PDFs, Word documents, and Notebooks—making it easier to consume content on the go. These overviews feature two-host narration and can be customized on the Create experience, including options for length, speaker voices, and more”.

🔜 Use Microsoft Copilot in Word to create, edit, and transform content directly from chat
Microsoft: “We’re introducing new capabilities in Microsoft 365 Copilot in Word that enhance how users interact with Copilot to create and refine content. These updates are designed to streamline document creation and editing through a more conversational and iterative experience” and “Users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license will be able to use Copilot in Word to draft new documents or sections, reorganize content into formats like FAQs, update existing content, or rewrite sections. Users will maintain control on the content as they will be able to review and approve any changes”.

Microsoft: “We’re introducing the ability to reference a PDF file when creating a slide using Copilot in PowerPoint. This enhancement enables users to extract and reuse content from cloud-stored PDFs, streamlining slide creation and improving productivity”.

🚫 OneNote for Windows 10 end of support – becomes read-only on 14th October 2025.
Microsoft: “As part of our ongoing investment in a unified and modern OneNote experience, OneNote for Windows 10 will reach end of support on October 14, 2025. After this date, the app will enter read-only mode. Users will still be able to view their notes, but editing, creating, or syncing content will no longer be supported”.

🚫 Microsoft Lens app will retire
Microsoft: “Microsoft Lens mobile app will retire starting September 15, 2025, with new installs disabled by mid-October and removal by mid-November. After December 15, 2025, new scans can’t be created. Users should switch to Microsoft 365 Copilot app for scanning”.
