🔜The Microsoft Copilot chat prompt box is getting a new ‘Tools’ feature


Microsoft is adding a new ‘Tools’ button to Copilot Chat to access task-specific AI capabilities. Due mid to late August 2025. Read more.


🔜 Chat will support new file types for grounding
Microsoft: “We’re expanding the file types supported in Copilot Chat to align with the Microsoft Search experience. This enhancement allows users to ground their questions in a broader range of content types, improving the relevance and accuracy of Copilot responses” and “Users will be able to ask Copilot questions about additional file types, including CAD, ZIP, and MP4. This update enhances Copilot’s ability to retrieve and reason over content from a wider variety of files, improving productivity and search flexibility”. There are no changes to the user experience.

🔜 Standard and Priority access to Copilot capabilities
Microsoft: “We’re excited to announce the change from fixed limits to capacity-based access for some capabilities in Microsoft 365 Copilot. Starting early August, Copilot Chat users without a Microsoft 365 Copilot license get standard access to tools like image generation and file upload based on service capacity. The access could vary during the time of the day based on the available capacity. Users will be notified in-product if the service capacity is not available and the task in progress will not be interrupted. Microsoft 365 Copilot users are offered priority access to these tools”.

🔜 Microsoft 365 Copilot Search will soon be generally available.


Microsoft 365 Copilot Search is an AI-powered search experience in the M365 Copilot app.  It leverages the Graph and M365 Copilot connectors to index content across Microsoft 365 and third-party apps, providing personalised, context-aware answers. Due mid to late August 2025. Read more.


🔜 Copilot Chat now offers better Search Refinement on CIQ Menu File Tab
You will soon be able to use File Type Filters (to narrow results by document type) and People Refiners (to filter files by collaborators or owners) to apply search criteria to get to relevant files faster.

🔜 Copilot Chat now offers meeting series selection on CIQ Menu
Microsoft is enhancing the meeting experience in Copilot Chat. You will be able to select both individual meeting instances and entire meeting series to include in your prompts to Copilot Chat. This will allow you to reference recurring discussions or decisions.

🔜 Microsoft Copilot Studio – Group files with instructions to guide and improve agent answers
Microsoft: “We are announcing the ability to group up to 500 files into a single knowledge source, where agents can narrow their scope of search when queried about relevant and related data in Copilot Studio” and “File groups enable makers to deliver more precise, context-aware answers by organizing related documents into a single knowledge source and using user-based variables to improve agent performance and reduce irrelevant responses”. 🔜 Real-time voice conversation with M365 Copilot


Real-time voice is coming to M365 Copilot Chat and M365 Copilot, offering a great alternative to typing-based interactions. Due from early August 2025. Read more.


🕔 M365 Copilot gets better file grounding refinement
The Files tab in the M365 Copilot prompt box is gaining ‘Type’ and ‘People’ filters to help you ground your prompt in content that matters to you. Now due early to mid-August 2025. Read more.


🕔 Access SharePoint agents in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app
Microsoft: “We’re introducing a new way to seamlessly access your most recently used SharePoint agents directly within the Microsoft 365 Copilot app—no need to navigate back to the SharePoint site. This enhancement helps users stay focused and productive by reducing context switching”. See the above image from Microsoft.

🕔 Copilot Pages: New file extension and file icon for Copilot pages
Microsoft: “A new .page file extension for Microsoft Copilot Pages. This new file extension will continue to support admin toggles, sensitivity labels, data loss prevention, multi-geo storage, Microsoft Purview eDiscovery, version history, export, audit logs, and data subject requests. The functionality and support for the .page file extension will be identical to the existing .loop file extension. The only difference is the file extension name and file icon”.

🕔 Researcher is being added to Copilot Notebooks
Microsoft: “We’re expanding the capabilities of the Researcher Agent by integrating it into Copilot Notebooks. This enhancement allows users to conduct complex, multi-step research across enterprise data sources—without leaving the Notebook experience—using OpenAI’s deep researcher model with chain-of-thought reasoning”.

🕔 Ground your M365 Copilot prompts in SharePoint and OneDrive
When writing Copilot prompts in the chat box, you will soon be able to point your prompts (ground) at specific SharePoint/OneDrive folders and SharePoint sites. Now due late July to late August 2025. Read more.


🕔 Microsoft 365 Copilot: Search for and select Teams Chats in Context IQ to scope prompts
Microsoft: “With this new feature, users will be able to search for and select Teams Chats in Context IQ (CIQ) to scope their prompts in BizChat.” and “Users will be able to ground their prompts in BizChat to the Teams Chats that they have access to. More details will be published for users here when this feature releases: Using Context IQ to refer to specific files, people, and more in Microsoft 365 Copilot“.

🔭 Audio Overview customisation in Copilot Notebooks
Microsoft: “Guide the content of an Audio Overview created for a Copilot Notebook through natural language input”.

Microsoft: “We’re introducing a chat history filtering capability that empowers users to tailor their view of past conversations. This feature enables users to scope their chat history to a more relevant, workflow-aligned view, helping them quickly surface the chats that matters most. This enhancement is designed to support better context recall.”.

🔭 Press and hold Win + C or Copilot key to activate voice on the Microsoft 365 Copilot app
Microsoft: “Press and hold Win + C keys, or the dedicated Copilot key for applicable devices, and the Microsoft 365 Copilot app will activate voice. With voice, talk to Copilot like a personal assistant – interrupting and redirecting at any time to prepare for the workday, create documents, understand topics, and search for information. This shortcut to activate voice means you don’t have to switch between screens to talk with Copilot. Enterprise-grade security and compliance are built in, so conversations stay private while productivity soars”.

🔭 Say “Hey Copilot” to activate voice conversations with the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on Windows
Microsoft: “With the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on Windows, say “Hey Copilot” to activate real-time voice conversations with Copilot. The wake word keeps you in flow, helping you draft content, analyze data, and get critical insights without having to navigate to a separate app or window. Built for enterprise, it respects your organization’s compliance and privacy settings, activating only when called”.

🔭 Expanded Input Box on Copilot Chat
Microsoft: “Users will be able to expand the Input Box to a full screen view when they type long prompts with lengthy context or instructions. When users copy paste prompts from word editors the prompt box will maintain plain text formatting to sustain readability and review of the prompt”.

🔭 Increased efficiency with auto-generated Copilot Pages
Microsoft: “Copilot Chat can automatically create and open a Page side-by-side when it detects a relevant scenario, enabling instant editing, steering, and sharing”.

Microsoft: “Users will be able to search for and select SharePoint Lists through the Context IQ menu to help ground their prompts when using Copilot Chat”.

OneDrive

🔜 Updated order of Shortcut and Sync commands


Microsoft: “Users will see the “Add Shortcut to OneDrive” command appear before the “Sync” command in the command bar. This change is designed to encourage use of the shortcut feature while maintaining access to Sync. The command will also adopt a consistent name and icon across Microsoft 365 apps”.

🔭 M365 Copilot: Save an audio overview from Copilot Notebooks to OneDrive
Microsoft: “Save the audio overview that you have generated within a Copilot Notebook to OneDrive so you can download or share with others”.

🚫 On hold: OneDrive will soon get a new ‘Export as PDF’ feature

Outlook

🔜 New Outlook for Windows: Add attachments while offline


Microsoft: ‘Users with offline mode enabled in the new Outlook for Windows will be able to attach files to draft emails while offline. These emails, including attachments, will be sent automatically once the device reconnects to the internet”.

🔜 Copilot chat to summarise emails for unlicensed users
Microsoft are introducing a new way to summarise email threads in Outlook using Copilot chat, for people with and without a Copilot licence. Due mid-August to mid-October 2025. Read more.


🔜 Updated: Trackable newsletters are coming to new Outlook and web


Newsletters in new Outlook for Windows and Outlook for the web will allow you to create, distribute, and track internal email newsletters. Now due in mid-to-late August 2025. July update: New release date, now on by default, and a new end-user documentation link. Read more.


🔜 Summarise email attachments with Copilot in classic Outlook for Windows
Microsoft: “To help users work more efficiently, Microsoft is enhancing Copilot in classic Outlook for Windows. With this update, Copilot can now summarize not only the body of an email but also the content of attached PDF, Word, and PowerPoint files—directly within the reading pane. This improvement is designed to reduce context switching and help users quickly understand the full scope of an email without opening attachments”.

🕔 Users can set custom account descriptions in new Outlook


Microsoft: “Coming soon to Microsoft Outlook: Outlook users will be able to set custom descriptions for their accounts, making it easier to identify their multiple accounts in the Outlook folder list as well as various lists and menus across Outlook”.

🕔 The Copilot Researcher agent is coming to Microsoft Word
The Researcher agent (for complex, multi-step research across work and web data) will be available in Word. Now due 18th August to 1st September 2025. Read more.


🕔 Agents in Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat in Outlook
Microsoft: “Agents extend the capability of Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat in exciting ways, letting users customize their Copilot experience. From Copilot in Outlook, the right-side panel will show agents that the user has previously installed or that their admin has previously deployed. The panel will also provide entry points to Get Copilot agents in the app store and to Create an agent”.

🕔 Create a meeting from an email thread with Copilot on Outlook mobile
Microsoft: “Copilot now makes it easier to schedule meetings directly from email conversations. With the new Schedule with Copilot option, Copilot analyzes the email thread and automatically creates a meeting invitation—pre-filling the title, agenda, and attaching the email thread. Attendees from the email are added to the invite, and you can quickly review, edit, and send”.

🕔 Offline Support for Calendar – Create, Edit and Delete Event support
Microsoft: “We’re expanding offline capabilities in the new Outlook for Windows. Users will soon be able to create, edit, and delete single calendar events even when not connected to the internet. This enhancement improves productivity and flexibility when working offline”.

🕔 🔜 New Outlook for Windows and web: Jump to a message in the message list
You will soon be able to use a new “Type to jump” feature to navigate your message list based on how it is sorted. For example, if your messages are sorted by Date, you will type a date to jump directly to it; if sorted by From, you will type a sender’s name to jump to their messages; and if sorted by Category, you will type a category name to go straight there. When sorted by sender, you will click the arrow icon to reveal the Type to jump to a sender option, allowing you to enter a name and find relevant messages.

Microsoft: “Users will be able to list the file attachments that they received or sent over email in M365 Copilot.”.

Microsoft: “Copilot will detect emails that are most likely to need a response and pre-generate three options for you review and select from. Save time and energy responding to high priority emails with proactive drafts”.

🔭 Enterprise and Web Grounding for Draft with Copilot
Microsoft: “Draft with Copilot now has access to your enterprise data to help you craft high quality emails grounded in the right context. You will be able to review the sources used to generate your email draft before you send the mail”.

🔭 Expand and collapse folders when moving emails (new Outlook)
Microsoft: “Users can now expand and collapse folder trees in the move/copy email dialog. This makes it easier to navigate large folder structures and find the right destination faster, improving efficiency and control during email triage”.

🔭 Quick steps in the pop-out ribbon (new Outlook)
Microsoft: “Quick Steps are now integrated into the ribbon of email pop-out ribbon in the new Outlook for Windows and Web. Users can access and execute their configured Quick Steps directly while reading emails in separate windows”.

🔜 Microsoft 365 Copilot: Enhanced presentation creation quality


Microsoft: “We’re improving the presentation creation experience in Microsoft 365 Copilot. With this update, Copilot will generate presentations with greater depth in content, narrative flow, structure, and visual design—helping users create more compelling and professional presentations faster. Copilot will create a link to the presentation saved in your OneDrive for you to open and review. This enhancement builds on the existing “Create presentation” feature in Bizchat and interacts with Microsoft 365 services such as OneDrive and SharePoint”.

🔜 External workbook links to blocked file types will be disabled by default
Microsoft: “Starting October 2025, external workbook links to blocked file types will be disabled by default, showing a #BLOCKED error for new links and preventing refresh of existing ones. Administrators can revert this via registry or group policy settings”.

🕔 Add topic(s) through Copilot to your existing presentation
Microsoft: “With this update, users can prompt Copilot to generate new content or reference a file to add topic-specific slides. The generated slides will automatically align with the design and formatting of the current presentation, reducing manual effort and ensuring a cohesive experience”.

The above update from Microsoft is lacking details and visuals, but is still worth noting due to this part of the update: “The generated slides will automatically align with the design and formatting of the current presentation”. I bet a lot of us are looking forward to trying this!

Copilot in PowerPoint users will soon be able to create presentations based on Excel files. Now due mid-July to late August 2025. Read more.


🔭 M365 Copilot in Excel: Generate a formula with Copilot from the grid upon “=”
Microsoft: “Type ‘=’ anywhere on your grid or in the formula bar and let Copilot generate formulas from natural language, making complex calculations simpler and faster.”.

🔭 M365 Copilot in PowerPoint: Generating PPT grounded on a Copilot Page

🔭 Auto-update document sections from new sources
Microsoft: “Easily refresh parts of your document using content from other files without copying and pasting. Copilot keeps your formatting intact while pulling in the latest updates from new sources.”.

🔭 Recent activity is part of Copilot’s dynamic document snapshot in Word
Microsoft: “Select the Activity tab within the Copilot summary at the top of a document for a summary of recent comments and changes. Choose a time window of 3 days, 1 week, or 2 weeks”.

🔭 Microsoft Copilot (Microsoft 365): Content suggestions in Word
Microsoft: “Select the Suggestions tab within the Copilot summary at the top of a Word document for suggestions on improving the content of the document”.

🔭 Copilot uses enterprise assets hosted on SharePoint OAL or Templafy when creating a slide
Microsoft: “Once your organization’s assets are integrated into a SharePoint Organization Asset Library (OAL) or connected through Templafy to Microsoft 365 Copilot, you’ll be able to easily create slides using your organization’s approved images”.

🔭 Microsoft Copilot (Microsoft 365): Document snapshot in Word personalises output
Microsoft: “The document snapshot helps the user focus faster by surfacing the most important information for them based on their personal context”.

🔭 Improved Python-powered answers in Copilot in Excel
Microsoft: “Copilot in Excel now provides improved direct answers to your data analysis questions, using Python”.

Microsoft: “You can now reference a PDF file when you create a slide with Copilot in PowerPoint”.

🚫 PowerPoint: Deprecation of Reuse Slides Button in Ribbon
Microsoft is retiring the Reuse Slide feature from the PowerPoint Ribbon. Microsoft suggest you continue to reuse content by copying and pasting slides between presentations or duplicating existing presentations.

🔜 Sharing video on SharePoint pages has been updated


SharePoint has a new process for adding videos to pages, ensuring your audience has permission to view them. Due mid-July to early August 2025. Read more.

Page Analytics in SharePoint is getting new Page Analytics updates for some users. Now due mid-August to mid-September 2025. Read more.


🕔 SharePoint is getting header and footer enhancements
Microsoft SharePoint is getting updated site headers and footers. Now due late August to early September 2025. Read more.


🕔 New SharePoint web part for FAQs, powered by M365 Copilot
A new web part for FAQs will curate FAQ content by working with your grounding information. By selecting one or more grounding source files, Copilot will generate the FAQ content, thereby reducing the time and effort required for creating FAQs. Now due mid to late July 2025. Read more.


🔭 Sections with Copilot
Microsoft: “Sections with Copilot is a new SharePoint authoring tool that allows users to create full-fidelity SharePoint sections with just a prompt. It works by first looking at the context of your page to offer prompt suggestions for what content you need next to offer a starting point. Next, you either select one of those starting points or write your own and optionally ground in a relevant file”.

Teams

🔜 Microsoft Teams is introducing a redesigned Workflows experience


This new version of Workflows in Teams aims to deliver a faster, more intuitive, and streamlined interface. Due from October 2025. Read more.


🔜 New filters and sorting for Teams meeting attendance reports
Microsoft: “Microsoft Teams attendance reports will gain new filters to set minimum attendee counts (1) and enhanced sorting by date and time (2), improving report efficiency” and “At the time of release, this enhancement will be available on Windows and macOS only. Once released, it will be immediately available to all tenants, including for existing meetings and events. There will be no option to revert to a previous version”.

🔜 Intelligent Recap in Teams to include supporting screenshots


Microsoft Teams’ intelligent meeting recap will soon include shared-screen content for richer, more visual summaries. Due mid to late-September 2025.


🔜 A new Teams meeting ‘join bar’ will remind you that your meeting has started


Microsoft is introducing a new meeting ‘join bar’ to help you access meetings you’ve RSVP’d as “Yes” or “Tentative”. Due mid to late July 2025. Read more.


🔜 Customise your Microsoft Teams experience with new accent colours


You will soon be able to customise your Teams experience by choosing an accent colour for the Teams shell, and your choice will show up across Teams. This change is cosmetic and does not impact functionality or performance. Now due early to late September 2025. Read more.


🔜 New option to pin the Teams app bar


Microsoft is tweaking the Teams user interface and adding a “hamburger (≡) context menu” in the top left corner (2) with the option to “Keep app bar visible for most window sizes” (1). Due late July 2025. Read more.


🔜 A new compact notification size for Microsoft Teams


Make Microsoft Teams notifications less intrusive with the new ‘Compact’ size option. Due late July 2025. Read more.


🕔 Meeting Audio Overview will create a summary of multiple Teams meetings
Microsoft is introducing a new feature called Meeting Audio Overview, which summarises key topics from multiple meetings into audio summaries. Now due mid to late September 2025. Read more.


🕔 Microsoft Copilot: File summary in Microsoft Teams chat
Microsoft: “Users will be able to summarize files with Summarize for me using Microsoft Copilot within one-on-one or group Microsoft Teams chats. This feature will work on common file types like Word and PDF initially, and other file formats will be added over time. This summarization respects the file’s security policies, ensuring that only users with access to the file receive a summary, which will carry the same sensitivity label as the original file. A Microsoft 365 Copilot license is required to use this feature”.

🕔 Meeting participants can request collaborative annotation sessions
Microsoft: “After the rollout, meeting participants who are not sharing their screens will have the ability to request an annotation session. This request will be sent to the presenter sharing their screen who can choose to accept or deny it”.

🕔 Teams is getting a Network Strength Indicator
Microsoft: “This feature will display your current network quality using a simple 3-bar system: Good (3 bars), Poor (2 bars), and Bad (1 bar). When your connection is limited, we’ll suggest actions to help conserve bandwidth and maintain meeting performance. You’ll also be able to see when other participants are experiencing poor or bad network conditions, providing better context for disruptions in the meeting”.

🔜 Microsoft Edge: Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat entry point in Microsoft Edge for Business
You will soon have two new ways to engage with M365 Copilot within Microsoft Edge for Business:

  • Context Menu Access. You will be able to right-click on any webpage and select the Copilot option. This will allow you to generate a summary of the open page. The response will appear in the side pane, giving you quick, contextual insights without leaving your current view.
  • Find on Page Integration. When you type into the “Find on Page” input box, you will have the option to trigger Copilot. Based on the text you enter, Copilot will generate a relevant response, which will also be displayed in the side pane.

With this feature, users can ask Copilot contextual queries such as “summarize this page.” This feature will also include contextual prompt suggestions to help users ask relevant questions about open pages in Edge. Page summarization and contextual prompt suggestions will be accessible for users when using Copilot through the Edge side pane”.
