Your Teams File open preferences will soon apply to files opened in classic Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Due early to mid-March 2025.

In Teams, you can select how you would like to open cloud-hosted Word, Excel and PowerPoint links by following these steps:

  1. Teams > Settings and more (…) > Settings > Files and links.
  2. Under Always open Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files in, choose TeamsDesktop App, or Browser


When this new feature is released, this setting will also apply when opening file links from classic Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The update reads like more apps will be added to this list later.
