Short Version
Microsoft is enhancing private channels, offering up to 1000 channels per team, 5000 members per channel, enabled meetings, and simplified compliance. Now due early October to mid-December 2025.

Details
The following updates are coming to Teams private channels:

  1. The 30 limit has been removed; add as many private channels as you need up to the 1000 channels per team limit.
  2. 5000 members per private channel, up from 250.
  3. Meetings can now be scheduled in private channels.
  4. Private channels will transition use a channel mailbox instead of individual user mailboxes.
  5. Compliance policies for private channels are part of the team’s group policies instead of the individual user level.
