Short Version
Microsoft Teams is introducing a new threaded conversation layout for channels, similar to those found in group chats. Due mid to late August 2025.
Details
Following this rollout, the threaded layout may facilitate more effective back-and-forth communication in channels, without cluttering the main conversation. In threaded layout channels, you can reply to specific messages and start a thread in the side pane.
Team owners can turn on threaded channels as they create a new channel, and in the Edit channel menu for existing channels:

As a channel user, you will be able to select Reply in thread to open the side pane and start a thread on a sub-topic:

The Followed threads quick view shows all the threads you’re following across all channels in one place:

Microsoft describe the benefits of threaded layout channels as:
- “Provide a more collaborative layout for conversation in channels (no need to create a post to start a conversation)
- Provide a way for users to have deeper conversations on sub-topics
- Users can discuss multiple topics without disrupting the main conversation”
Available on Teams for Windows/Mac desktop, web, and iOS/Android devices.
Availability
Due mid to late August 2025.
