Short Version
Microsoft Teams meeting URLs are being shortened to improve shareability and security. Now due by late February 2026.
Details
Microsoft is updating how Teams meeting join links appear in meeting invites. Here are the main changes:
- Meeting invites now display the full join link, instead of a ‘Join the meeting now’ hyperlink.
- If the meeting organiser is removed from the tenant, links to meetings they scheduled automatically expire.
- Expiration limits will apply to newly created links.
- Meeting links expire in 60 days after the meeting ends.
- ‘Meet Now’ links expire
after 8 hours60 days after creation - Old links are unaffected.
- Parameters such as tenant ID, organiser ID, conversation ID and message ID will not be in the URL (Microsoft suggest that your organisation check for processes and integrations that may use these parameters).
- The new meeting URL syntax is: https://teams.microsoft.com/meet/<meeting_id>?p=<HashedPasscode>

Intended benefits:
- Improved link consistency and reliability across clients and email applications.
- Easier link copying and sharing.
- The URL is more secure and less susceptible to malicious attacks.
