Short Version
Microsoft Teams is introducing Trust Indicators to help you quickly identify external participants. Due late November 2025 to January 2026.

Details
To help you identify external participants in Microsoft Team, Microsoft is introducing Trust Indicators – visual labels (badges or icons) next to people’s names.

These indicators signal whether someone is external to your organisation, a guest, or an anonymous meeting participant:

You will see badges (1) and truncated labels/icons (2) next to the names of external participants in Teams:

Microsoft provide a detailed breakdown of where and why each icon appears: Representation of users outside of your organization – Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn.
